This Year We Celebrate Together 20years of Open Source Achievements
It is Joomla’s 20th Birthday, and I am utterly honoured to serve as Joomla’s President at this pivotal moment in our history. For this reason, I would like to express my enthusiasm for everything we have accomplished and share my optimism for the decades yet to come. With this in mind, let’s take a look back together to see how much we have achieved in these twenty years.
In May 2025, the United Nations Digital Technology Network adopted a new set of Open Source Principles. These principles provide guidelines to promote collaboration and the adoption of open-source technologies for digital projects within the UN and globally, and they're all about open, secure and inclusive global digital collaboration. This May is the return of Maintainer Month on GitHub, where a global community of contributors alongside the Open Source Initiative (OSI) are gathered to celebrate and honour the individuals who steward and sustain Open-Source projects. 2025 is the fifth year of Maintainer Month, themed "Securing Open Source."
The Joomla! project is incredible not only because Joomla is the best CMS in the world, but also because our volunteers are skilful, powerful, and highly competent. Joomla volunteers never cease to surprise me with their optimism and positivity, always aiming to help the Joomla! project and benefit the community.
Art liberates you. It is the boundless, limitless, infinite field that allows you the freedom to express yourself. For this reason, I have always liked creativity, and throughout my career, I have been lucky enough to collaborate with creative people with more than just an artistic flair. This is also the reason I joined the JCM graphics production team. This is how I met Sandra Decoux.
A new frontier that requires careful navigation has been created by the intersection of artificial intelligence and open source principles. The Open Source Initiative (OSI) held the Affiliates Town Hall on February 27, 2025. The purpose of this discussion was to gather stakeholders from the open source community to discuss the Open Source AI Definition (OSAID) and the future of open source AI systems.
This month we have with us another amazing woman of Joomla. The lady who, for more than a decade now has been the voice of Joomla’s social media, Alison Meeks. I always liked to call her the Angel of Joomla because Alison saved the day in multiple instances, a fact that serves as a demonstration of her dedication to her role and her love for Joomla. Alison has been one of the most valuable and devoted volunteers in the Joomla community.

As we have already seen, there are many women volunteers in Joomla. Amazing women, who look after the Joomla project, and the community that surrounds it.
This month we have with us another amazing Joomla woman. Her name is Christiane Maier-Stadtherr.
The passion for computer science was always one of my favorite topics to discuss. With this in mind I would like to present Ane Miren Alvarez, a talented Web Developer who has implemented the Joomla API within the automation tool Make, an “integration that allows for automated workflows and processes within Joomla” as she describes it.
