This is the fourth article in a four part series designed to help you create great video training and tutorials for your clients. In part one, I talked about five reasons for training clients with video. In part two, I discussed the tools you'll need, and the preparation you should make to create video tutorials for your clients as part of your site-building workflow. In part three, we talked about the actual "nuts and bolts" of creating these videos. In this article we're going to cover hosting, some thoughts on workflow and a few ways to make your videos stand out.
Designers and developers are used to thinking like the average desktop user. But now that the mobile revolution has arrived, design is a multi-part process. How do you start designing for the guy tapping away on his smartphone? And which do you tackle first – mobile or desktop? It turns out that progressive enhancement – creating the mobile website first – can actually lead to a better, more user-friendly website experience later on.
There are 2977 free extensions on JED and if you google 'free joomla templates', you'll find links full of decent quality cost-free Joomla templates; now if you are one of those developers who designs such products, here are some ways you can monetize them.
Ever wondered why pages load so fast on large sites? It's because they have good servers and use a Content Delivery Netowork (CDN). I use them on most of my sites and will explain what a CDN is, how it works, and how you can add one to your Joomla web site.
Today I'm going to teach you about search operator commands. These little tricks will help you track your Joomla website SEO progress over time. Here is an easy and fun way for you to share your feelings about Joomla! with the rest of the community: Simply write a haiku about Joomla! below in the comments area of this month's page. Be sure to check back here to read the haikus submitted by other members of the community. We will have a page for new haikus in every upcoming JCM issue.
This month I had the great opportunity to interview Joomla Development Manager David Hurley. David walks us through some of the top Joomla development skills and how he's achieved them over the years. Hope you enjoy the interview!
More and more leaders in the Joomla project have been talking about how important it is to listen. At JoomlaDay France last weekend, I had the opportunity to hear in person what people are thinking. It was an enriching experience for me, and sometimes surprising…
How does one go about finding a Joomla Developer around the globe? This article gives you some tips...
I had the privilege to interview CMSExpo Founder John Coonen this month. We talked about everything from how he started CMSExpo to what the Joomla community really needs and how they are trying to bring them to life.
Your website is finally finished! You have added great content, cool images, the whole nine-yards. Now that your site has been done for a while, you've been doing data analysis for your site and realize people don't seem too interested in downloading your content. Most likely this isn't due to the content on your site, because you have been getting heavy traffic on your blog. Have you ever thought that there could be something wrong with your call to action?
Last December I wrote about the "X Factor and Women in Joomla". This time, I am extending it to women in tech. On March 23, I attended the LibrePlanet 2013: Commit Change conference that was held at Harvard University. A two-day conference, I was only able to attend the first day, and I was on a mission to follow up with Marina Zhurakhinskaya from GNOME's Outreach Program for Women.
It must be that Spring is in the Air! New goals, new plans, new roadmaps, new visions, new events, new leadership members, new processes... And on top of that a brand new developer site!
We had a great turn-out and a high percentage of women (26.6%) at the first JoomlaDay Boston held on March 16 at the Microsoft NERD Center.
Lately I've been spending almost all of my Joomla! time working on the new tags feature that will be in CMS 3.1. It has been a huge and exciting project, and we'll see it for real on April 15, but in the meantime anyone can test it or even better test and give feedback. So many people have helped already with this, and you can too.
