University students from many parts of the world will spend the summer break ("winter break" in some countries) writing code and learning about open source development. Joomla! is one of the selected mentoring organizations in Google Summer of Code 2016 (GSoC 2016). Does it mean that students will be coding to make Joomla! even better? Yes! And we invite you all to join us in the GSoC 2016 journey.

With a new year upon us and the 10 year anniversary of Joomla behind us we’re all looking to the future. This is the beginning of a new era in the Joomla community and what we do this year will shape our future. As individuals we have the power to change the community for the better and there is no better time than now to make positive changes. Here are some ways we can make a positive difference in our community this year.

Since mid year a group of sporty Joomlers joined their efforts and created the Joomla! Sport Club group on Facebook, a great place to find people who love sports and Joomla!. Whether you run, cycle or practice any other sport, there is room for you.

Yes, your membership site can make you more of the expert! All things being equal, people buy from who they know, like and trust. Use your membership site to increase your authority and therefore your level of perceived trust.

I recently had the joy and privilege to keynote at both PHP World and the Joomla World Conference in November 2015, and both were amazing experiences. Thanks to the keynotes and my involvement with the Joomla community, I wanted to share with you how I got to where I am now, and how your life and career could take similar paths.

Anyone can contribute to Joomla and have a say in it’s future - including you! Joomla is 100% volunteer based and countless volunteers over the past ten years have made it what it is today. We are the future of Joomla and every person makes a difference. Our community is diverse and there are so many ways to contribute it can seem complicated. These tips will help you get involved with the Joomla community.

The first four years I was in business, I had a reccurring problem where I would go through cycles of being overwhelmed. I would be trucking along, knocking out projects, and a previous client would reach out to me with an urgent need for help. I would pause whatever I was working on, get them taken care of, and get back to work. Periodically though, several urgent client requests would arrive back-to-back when I didn't have a spare moment to look at them. My bandwidth would quickly get maxed out and I'd end up working weekends trying to stay on top of everything.
