With Joomla 4 on the horizon, extension developers are working hard to get their extensions compatible with this new major release. Nobody wants to be the developer of an extension that breaks their clients’ websites. So they are all removing outdated code and replacing it with code that is up to the standards of today (and tomorrow). In this issue, Jan Pavelka from Phoca gives us a little insight into how they work, and of course he answers the big question: will Phoca extensions be ready on time?

You probably know that Joomla 4, our next major Joomla release, is getting closer and closer. But what about your extensions? Will they be compatible with this upcoming major version, or will they break your website(s)? The best way to find out is to ask the extension developers! For our March issue, we interviewed Yiannis Christodoulou from WEB357, who is happy to say that most of their extensions are fully prepared for Joomla 4.

With Joomla 4 on the way, some extension developers are still working on the compatibility of their extensions. Others haven’t even started yet (guys, you really should at least have started by now). And others, like AcyMailing… well, if you use it, you may know this already: AcyMailing’s latest version (7) is fully compatible with Joomla 4. Alexandre Derocq from AcyMailing is more than happy to share his thoughts on this with us.

Joomla 4 is one step closer. The last Beta version has recently been published, and we are already waiting for the first Release Candidate. Enough reasons to know how extension developers are working towards the release of the stable version. This time, we talked to Roland Dalmulder, a well-known contributor in the Joomla Community over the years. Today, he told us how he is working on updating his extensions.

Getting extensions ready: DJ-extensions

For some months now,  we have been approaching extension developers to ask them how they are working towards Joomla 4. This time we talked to Tomasz Kowalski, from DJ-Extensions, whose primary focus is on the customers and making the next version upgrade as smooth as possible.

As you may have noticed (and who wouldn’t): Joomla 4 Release Candidate is out! Extension developers have been working hard on making their extensions compatible. This month Nicolas Claverie talks with us about getting their Joomla e-commerce solutions HikaShop, HikaSerial and HikaMarket ready to run smoothly with Joomla 4.

Joomla 4 stable is coming closer every day! If you have been around since Joomla 2.5, or even 1.5 or 1.0, you may remember upgrading as a difficult process, mainly caused by extensions not being ready for the new major version. With Joomla 4 on the way, the JCM asks extension developers what’s going to happen with their extension(s). Joomlashack has been around from the very beginning of Joomla, so if anyone knows what to do when a new major version comes out, it’s them! This month we had the pleasure of talking to Joomlashack’s CEO Steve Burge, who is pleasantly surprised by the smoothness of Joomla 4.

Joomla 4 is just around the corner. With the RC4 version released, the stable version is approaching, and the JCM is still asking extension developers what's going to happen with their extension(s). This time, we talk to Yannick Gaultier, the developer behind Weeblr SEO extensions, who tells us how, at some point, he decided Joomla was the way forward.

Darek Śnieg is the Support Team Lead at Cloudaccess.net, the hosting company where you can launch your own joomla.com website for free. The first Joomla website he made was for an organization of former career soldiers. This was ‘a lot of fun, but also quite a challenge’, that required some creativity and some inventive moves. Darek would advise everyone who needs more than a business card website to choose Joomla: “You’ll thank me later.”
