This is the first in a short series of articles intended to help technical writers and instructional designers learn how to build Joomla web-help systems. However, if you’re not a professional writer, you may still have an interest in the topic. For example, maybe you’re a one-person development shop, or you work for a small company without technical writers, and you want to write and publish your own software documentation. If you fall into the latter category, you will find these articles are geared toward beginners, as most writers will have less experience with Joomla. But, I hope they will give you a few ideas on how you might build your own publishing platform.

Faisant partie de la communauté, je me demande parfois comment ai-je débuté avec Joomla! il y a 6-7 ans. Nous n’avions pas Facebook ou Twitter où demander de l’aide ou du support sur les extensions. Aujourd’hui, je me demande si les débutants savent comment chercher dans le JED. Chercher dans QUOI… ?

Chegou a hora. Aquela hora do ano quando se começa a organizar a agenda e planejar eventos. Sim, deveria ter começado em 1º de janeiro, bem no começo do ano. Provavelmente teve a intenção de em 2014 estar no controle de suas tarefas, projetos e agenda. Agora, e você mal teve tempo de respirar, já é fevereiro. Não posso dizer como acontece mas é sempre a mesma coisa - e acabou de acontecer mais uma vez. Mas não se preocupe e não desista de suas metas. Nunca é tarde para começar a planejar. O que quer dizer que agora é o melhor momento para se falar de uma oportunidade importante.

Het is weer zover. De tijd van het jaar waarop je begint met je agenda te vullen en je evenementen te plannen. Ik weet het, eigenlijk had je het al op 1 januari willen doen, om het jaar gelijk goed te beginnen. Je was waarschijnlijk van plan om in 2014 te zorgen dat je al je taken, projecten en je agenda volledig onder controle zou houden. En nu, voordat je op adem bent gekomen is het alweer februari. Ik kan je ook niet vertellen hoe dat kan, maar zo gaat het altijd - nu dus ook weer. Maar geen zorgen, maak je niet druk en geef vooral je goede voornemens nog niet op. Het is nooit te laat om te beginnen met plannen. Precies de juiste tijd dus om een belangrijke gelegenheid met je te bespreken.

Already a month has gone by in this brand new year of 2014. After the leadership took a little holiday break, as you all hopefully did, they started the engine in full mode with (re)new(ed) energy.

CMS AFRICA, an organization which creates awareness on various open source CMSs is partnering with Kenya’s premier Business Institute of higher learning, Strathmore University, to host the CMS Africa Summit. The two day summit slated for March 7th and 8th, Nairobi, Kenya, is expected to attract web designers, web analysts, app developers, web administrators, government agencies, and digital marketers in Africa.

Jetzt ist die Zeit gekommen. Die Zeit des Jahres in der man beginnt seine Termine zu organisieren und Veranstaltungen zu planen. Ich weiß, man sollte dies bereits zum 1. Januar getan haben um das Jahr richtig zu beginnen. Ihr hattet bestimmt die Absicht das Jahr 2014 zu dem Jahr zu machen, in dem ihr die volle Kontrolle über eure Aufgaben, Projekte und euren Kalender habt. Bevor ihr aber richtig Zeit zum Atmen hattet war es schon Februar. Ich kann euch nicht sagen wie das passiert, aber es passiert immer - und jetzt ist es wieder passiert. Aber macht euch keine Sorgen, ärgert euch nicht, und gebt schon gar nicht eure Ziele auf. Es ist nie zu spät um mit der Planung zu beginnen. Was bedeutet, jetzt ist die perfekte Zeit um über eine wichtige Gelegenheit zu diskutieren.

Właśnie nadszedł ten moment - czas w którym zaczynamy organizować swój kalendarz i planować nowe wydarzenia. Zasadniczo powinniśmy to zrobić właściwie już na początku stycznia. Pomimo opóźnień, każdy z nas miał szczery zamiar zorganizować nasze zadania, projekty i kalendarz na rok 2014. Zaledwie zdołaliśmy odetchnąć po świętach i nowym roku, a niespodziewanie nadszedł już luty. Trudno mi powiedzieć dlaczego tak się dzieje - i to praktycznie każdego roku. Koniec końców nie ma się czym martwić, a już na pewno nie ma sensu porzucać naszych planów. Nigdy nie jest za późno zacząć organizować noworoczny kalendarz, a to oznacza to tylko jedno. Nastał idealny moment aby omówić bardzo ważną sprawę.

Je suis père. Cela sonne un peu comme une confession, mais ceux qui me connaissent savent que j’adore les enfants. Actuellement, j'en ai trois et j’espère bien en avoir d’autres dans un futur proche. Etre parent m’a énormément appris. J’ai notamment appris qu’il existe un étrange phénomène qui veut que mes enfants n’écoutent pas ce que je leur demande tant que je ne l’ai pas répété maintes et maintes fois. C’est intriguant car cela ne semble pas toujours être le cas. En effet, cela ne se produit que dans certains cas, et généralement lorsqu’ils doivent faire quelque chose qu’ils n’ont pas particulièrement envie de faire. C'est excessivement fatiguant et au bout d’un certain temps, cela devient véritablement pénible de toujours devoir me répéter.

Voilà, nous y sommes. C’est le moment de l'année où vous commencez à organiser votre agenda et à planifier les événements auxquels vous allez participer. Je sais, pour débuter l'année du bon pied, vous auriez dû le faire le 1 Janvier. Vous aviez probablement l'intention de faire de 2014 l'année où vous auriez une maitrise totale sur vos tâches, vos projets et votre calendrier. Mais voilà, avant même que vous ayez eu le temps de respirer, vous voilà déjà en février. Je ne peux pas vous expliquer pourquoi mais c’est toujours ainsi – et c’est le cas une fois de plus. Mais ne vous inquiétez pas et ne renoncez surtout pas à vos objectifs. Il n'est jamais trop tard pour commencer à planifier et c'est d’ailleurs le moment idéal pour discuter d'une incroyable opportunité.

“I want my website to integrate with Facebook.” It might sound specific, but it’s not. Facebook is a huge website and Joomla is an ever evolving CMS so the ways the two can work together are varied and interesting. Being clear with what you want (and don’t want) will help you get the Facebook integration you want on your website.

This is about a tool which has gained a lot of attention in the Joomla community over the last few months.

La più importante funzionalità rilasciata con la versione 3.2 di Joomla!, a mio avviso, è senza dubbio la cosidetta "Joomla Extension Finder aka Install from Web", permette di installare le estensioni presenti nel JED (Joomla Extensions Directory) in maniera semplice e rapida comodamente dal pannello di controllo.

Season’s Greetings, Joomla Friends! This year has been very busy for everyone involved in Joomla development, so I’m really excited to be able to publish the results of the program. Instead of the normal, common New Year's resolutions so many attempt to attain like shedding some pounds, eating better and curbing work-o-holic tendencies, I've come up with a few Joomla-based resolutions that are EASY to attain.

A few years ago I had a very simple view of what I understood I did and who I was when it came to website creation. I described my business as Website Design and myself as a website designer.

The first Joomla! User Group meeting in Poland, called JUG-Silesia, met on December 14. Forty people came to hear three interesting presentations, and a lot of awards were in store for the participants.
