The Joomla Bug Squad is looking for you!
Do you want to improve Joomla, solve issues and make Joomla safer? Would you like to meet a friendly bunch of super heroes? Are you interested in learning? Then the Joomla Bug Squad is waiting for you!
Joomla Bug Squad: it sounds a bit like super heroes. And that’s exactly what they are, just without the capes. The Bug Squad hunts down and fixes bugs to keep Joomla stable and reliable. The team also works to bring the number of GitHub issues down, one confirmed fix at a time.
The best part of the Bug Squad is the teamwork. We get to solve tricky problems together and learn from each other. Every bug is a little mystery to unravel, and there’s a real thrill when the fix finally works. Plus, we share a few laughs every now and then - especially when the ‘bug’ turns out to be a missing semicolon 😅
Join us!
Do you want to make Joomla better? Join the Bug Squad! Developers are especially needed, but testers, documenters, and anyone curious about how Joomla works can contribute.
If you like solving problems and don’t mind a few bugs, you’ll fit right in! Some Joomla or coding knowledge helps, but it’s not required; we’ll help you learn as you go.
Curiosity and a bit of patience go a long way! What matters most is a willingness to test, ask questions, and work with others to improve Joomla.
What new members do
Once you join, we’ll help you get set up and guide you through your first steps.
New members usually start by testing reported issues - confirming if a bug really exists and whether a proposed fix works. From there, you can move on to writing or reviewing patches, or helping others in the tracker. There’s always something to do, and the team is great at helping newcomers find their place.
You’ll quickly learn the workflow, meet other team members, and start contributing at your own pace. And of course - join the Bug Squad meetings! That’s the best way to connect, learn, and have fun together.
How the team works
We work quite closely, even though we’re spread all over the world. Most communication happens online, so there’s always someone around to help, review a patch, or share a laugh. It really feels like a global team of friends united by one goal: keeping Joomla awesome.
We meet online every three weeks for about an hour. It’s a mix of catching up, discussing ongoing issues, reviewing progress, and planning what’s next. The meetings are relaxed but productive - plenty of teamwork, and good vibes between the bug talk!
How to join
Joining is easy! Just drop by the Joomla Mattermost in the Bug Squad channel and say hi, we’ll help you get started. You can even join the next meeting without a formal invitation. All the details, including meeting info and notes, are right there in the channel header. Or simply email me, Martin Kopp (Macjoom) at
