J and Beyond 2016 - a family gathering!
Joomla! Is often referred to as a large extended family, with that in mind, it goes without saying that JandBeyond is certainly considered to be "The Family Meeting" par excellence of the Joomla! Event calendar.
Now in its seventh year, this year’s edition of JandBeyond sees the Joomla! community gather in Barcelona, the colorful, lively, creative Spanish city on the stunning Mediterranean coast. In Barcelona soulfulness, vitality, impressive architecture and an element of high-tech combine to make a unique melting pot brimming with creative energy, the parallels to the lifeblood of the Joomla! community could not be clearer.
JandBeyond is held over 3 days and consists of a concentrated mix of developer, designer, sitebuilder and business topics. The program offers 55 sessions and an un-conference style community contribution afternoon where every delegate is encouraged to get stuck in and give a little back to the project. This afternoon is called “Make it Happen” and as recent years have gone to prove, this key element of the conference has helped the project to not only move forward but to recruit new volunteers who may have felt they had nothing to offer until they experienced this first hand.
JAB is at its heart, a meeting of participants for participants. Here people speak and report from practical experience with the collective aim of gaining new and sharing existing knowledge with other community members.
Alongside the standard sessions, JandBeyond is punctuated with strong keynotes from established speakers, on more general topics that prove interesting to all attendees. This year’s lineup is no different and features:-
-
Zeev Suraski: The PHP7 Story
-
Crystal Harris: UX is not a Big Scary Monster
-
Radek Suski: Be(e) Community
-
Chiara Aliotta: A day in the life of a UX designer
-
Heather Burns: VAT MOSS and the future of web development
-
Kevinjohn Gallagher: All Good Things
-
Brian Teeman: Would it be easier if we all spoke English?
Of course JandBeyond isn’t all about being serious, it also holds the crown in many people's’ eyes as also being one of the most fun events to attend. With the J.O.S.C.A.R.S our awards for excellence within the community and J!Factor, our now legendary talent show, being highlights. We will be opening nominations for the J.O.S.C.A.R.S shortly and if you would like to perform in this year’s J!Factor please send an email to
