Happy Birthday Joomla 🎉

This month, we're celebrating Joomla's 21st birthday. Since we're the Joomla Community Magazine, we do this with content - in this issue, you'll find a number of entertaining 21-themed articles.

Our President, Elisa Foltyn, took a different approach: she ran 21 kms, while telling us Joomla's history! And it's all on video, we've included the video below.

How many CMS do you know whose president runs 21 kms, just to mark the birthday of that CMS? And she doesn't just run, she shares the highlights or our history - while running towards a bright future. Kudos for Elisa!

  • You'll be redirected to the Joomla Identity Portal
  • Create an account and you'll get redirected and added to the Town Square channel on Mattermost
  • Search for the channel called New to Joomla? Start here and join that as well (if you can't find it, ask in Town Square)
  • Introduce yourself
  • Join a New to the Joomla Community Session, they're on the 15th of each month
  • We'll help you get settled in and find you a team / project to contribute to!

The Joomla World Conference is a fantastic way to get to learn a lot, get to know the people and feel the vibe! Three days of learning, sharing, connecting and fun. About the author

Before I got my current job as Coordinator Communications & Digital, I ran my own company for 25 years. The first 15 years I was a writer / editor / journalist / writing coach, but then I created my first website with Joomla... and I was hooked. I switched careers and became a website developer. My current job combines these two skills, so that's a win-win 🙂

Why I contribute to Joomla

To many people Joomla is just a tool. But if you look a little closer, you'll notice it's much more than that. It's a living system, raised and nourished by a community of volunteers dedicating their time to make it the best CMS ever. Without volunteers, Joomla wouldn't exist. It's not 'just a product'. Everyone who uses Joomla, can do so because someone, somewhere, contributed to it. I want to give back to the community that keeps Joomla alive.

And, probably needless to say: I love being part of that community. 

Contributing to Joomla by volunteering brought me so much: valuable experience, more knowledge and a better understanding of Joomla and its community, and the opportunity to work together with a crowd of lovely people all over the world.
