The June Issue

Our previous issue, in May, was the first one that was published using only the Joomla core for the publishing workflow. Before that, we used an extension, EasyBlog, to handle the process of approval and scheduling our content. The Joomla Community Magazine is a monthly magazine; each new issue goes live on the 20th of the month.
Of course a monthly publishing workflow for a magazine, with authors, editors and content neatly structured in categories, is something that can just as well be done with Joomla core. But in 2020 the decision was made to use EasyBlog for this, and migrating an existing magazine is a whole different ballgame. How we made our move from EasyBlog to just Joomla? You can read it in this issue.
Plus: get to meet our new President, Elisa Foltyn, read about awesome features nobody has bragged about so far, meet four young developers who are working on improving core functionality, find out why people are going to the Joomla World Conference, and much, much more.

Website performance has never been more important. Faster websites provide a better experience for visitors, rank better in search engines, and often convert more visitors into customers. One of the most important performance metrics measured by Google's Core Web Vitals is Largest Contentful Paint (LCP).

A prospective client once said something that many agencies in open source will recognise immediately:
“We’d prefer to work with the company behind the CMS. It feels safer — they’ll know it best.”
It’s a reasonable assumption. If a platform has a “founder’s company” or official commercial arm, it feels natural to assume they sit closest to the roadmap, the architecture, and the future direction of the product.

Our GSoC student Reda Muhamed asked: How does Joomla work? How does an idea actually find its way into the Joomla core? The answer is surprisingly interesting. It all starts with an issue on GitHub. See how many steps are necessary and how many people - users, testers, developers, maintainers, release managers and more - are involved until a new feature or bug fix finds his way into the Joomla core.

Joomla Day USA – Benefits of Being There!

I have used Joomla to develop my clients' websites for over 10 years. I find it to be more powerful than other CMS I have used but it comes with a steeper learning curve. Fortunately, the Joomla community that supports its users is as outstanding as the software. I have benefited tremendously from the many ways I have received support from the volunteers in the Joomla community.

When I received my acceptance to speak at JoomlaDay USA 2026, I was excited, honored, and honestly a little nervous.
This wasn't just another Joomla event for me. It was my first visit to the United States, my first JoomlaDay USA, and my first time speaking at a Joomla event in America.

That feeling of building something that works without you is what drew me to this project. But to understand why this matters to me, you need to know where I started, the “Genesis” of it all.
Reuse the experience of Joomla translators

Machine translation is fast, but it doesn't know the words a community has spent years agreeing on. My Google Summer of Code project adds a feedback loop to Joomla that learns those words from the corrections translators make, so its translations get better over time.

When a new Joomla release arrives, attention naturally focuses on the headline features. Those are the features that appear in release announcements, social media posts and conference presentations.
But some of the most useful improvements are the ones that quietly arrive in the background.
