Thanks to the Joomla! Event Travel (JET) Program

I would like to share my first J and Beyond event experience with you, the Joomla! community.

I am Gunjan Patel from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. I am an active contributor and volunteer of Joomla! Project. Among others, my roles are: Joomla! Bug Squad member, Google Summer Of Code (GSoC) 2014 mentor, Joomla! User Network Ahmedabad (JUGAhmedabad) co-ordinator, com_localise component helper and Gujarati Translator.

When I started my journey from Sardar Patel International Airport, Ahmedabad on 28th May 2014 I was little bit sad because of leaving my loving wife and parents, but I was also happy that I was going to meet my another family, yes it’s Joomla! Family.

I would like specially thank to Joomla! Event Travel (JET) Programme organizers: Dianne Henning, Thomas Kahl, Isidro Baquero, Radek Suski and Javier Gomez. They, as a representatives of the Joomla project, gave me this wonderful opportunity to meet in person a lovely Joomla! Family and loving JPeople at J and Beyond Event on 30th May – 1st Jun 2014.

28th May 2014 – The day when I arrived to the Frankfurt Main airport.

The first person who I met was Mr. Radek Suski – I was really excited to find him.

He picked me up from the airport and took me to a hotel in his awesome JShuttle. I really appreciate his commitment for picking up the event participants and driving more than 1500 km. I can say only a person like you, who loves this community by heart, can do this. Thank you so much for all your effort and kindness.

Sarah gave me the opportunity to speak about Joomla! Certification Programme. I got a chance to share my knowledge and experience about local Indian market and pros-cons of introducing this programme with her. Thank you so much for giving me chance and it was a one of the best moment of JAB programme.

On Saturday there was a session about Make It Happen. In this session you could contribute to the Joomla! Project in different ways. I would have loved to join the Bug Squashing Session with my team colleagues however I decided to contribute to the com_localise initiative, which is a component that will help Joomla translators to be more successful. I’m already using this component for Joomla! Gujarati Translation and I want to make it better. Thanks to Javier Gomez for leading this session and guidance and whole team for joining this event.

Joomla! Google Summer of Code (GSoC) 2014 – Meeting with Mr. Chad Windnagle and team.

On Saturday, it was a barbecue time at J and Beyond evening. We met some of Google Summer of Code (GSoC) team organisers, mentors and students, where we got together and discussed about their project and experience in Joomla! GSoC Projects. 2014 Google Summer of Code (GSoC) looks promising.

Meeting for GSoC – Joomla! SQL Optimisation Project with co-mentor – Mr. Nicola Galgano

This year I am mentoring Google Summer of Code (GSoC) Joomla! SQL Optimisation Project for student Mr. Nadeeshaan Gunasinghe. Thanks to the Joomla! Event Travel (JET) Programme I got a chance to meet my co-mentor in person and we discuss about project and we found the better solution and worthful meeting which was almost impossible online. We need a huge data site for testing queries and optimize it. If you have huge data sites and would like to share your experience with us, we will appreciate your help. Please contact me if you are willing to make Joomla faster.

I brought Spicy Peanuts from India for my JFriends. They enjoyed it a lot with JBeer and it was funny that it made them cry.

Wow... I love swimming and I am passionate about it. I was waking up daily on 6:30 am without an alarm clock to swim in this awesome swimming pool. So, you may imagine how crazy I am for swimming.
