A Message from our Friends at the Open Website Alliance

August-JCM-AMessageFromFriends1116

In a world of competitive everything, it is so nice to find that in certain areas collaboration is king... And one such area is the open-source world, not only because we all depend on each other (and not just for code dependencies 😉) but also because often a contributor to a project isn't just contributing to one open-source project but a few... And in talking about collaborations, while Joomla has a few ongoing endeavors, we have a particularly interesting one in the Open Web Alliance which Joomla helped co-found back in early 2024.

The Open Website Alliance (OWA) is a collaborative initiative formed by the international community organizations behind major open-source content management systems (CMS), including Drupal, TYPO3, Joomla and WordPress. It was founded with the goal of promoting the choice of open-source software over proprietary systems for creating and managing websites. Because "All Together", we are stronger, better, faster!

And for Joomla's 20th year celebration, some members of OWA wanted to send us some kind words...

"Happy 20th Anniversary, Joomla!"

On behalf of the Drupal community, we extend our warmest congratulations to Joomla on celebrating 20 years of open source excellence.

For two decades, Joomla has played a vital role in advancing open source content management, empowering individuals and organizations around the globe. We celebrate your achievements as a fellow open source project and the shared commitment to openness, innovation and community that unites our projects.

Cheers from all of us in the Drupal community, we wish you continued success!

 Tim Doyle, CEO, Drupal Association.

It is wonderful to be able to congratulate the Joomla on 20 years as a free and open source content management system. Through our work in the Open Website Alliance, collaboration between our CMS projects is stronger than ever — but our history of friendship goes far back.

In 2016, J and Beyond e.V., the German Joomla community organization, was in danger of losing its non-profit status. It was obvious for us that the TYPO3 Association should donate money to help cover their legal fees.

Through our shared open source spirit, we are projects that learn from each other. Our communities solve web publishing and content management in different ways, but with similar tools and third-party dependencies. Like athletes, we compete together in friendship. Without each other, we would never be our best.

Olivier Dobberkau as President of the TYPO3 Association.

We are very grateful for the birthday wishes of our CMS friends... and wish them the best as well!

As Vice-President of OSM, I particularly enjoy participating in OWA and helping moving the global CMS community forward.
