When I travelled to Kraków for WordCamp Europe, I was not quite sure what to expect. I come from the Joomla community, so I assumed I would be something of an outsider at a WordPress event. Instead, from Contributor Day onward, I kept running into faces I already knew, many of them from CloudFest. It felt less like arriving somewhere new and more like continuing a conversation that had been going on for a while.

The Joomla project has been awarded a significant investment from the Sovereign Tech Fund to deliver a structured 20-month accessibility programme. This programme will further strengthen Joomla's position as one of the world's most accessible content management systems.

I have a confession to make.
For as long as I can remember, I've been hiding things on websites. Not malware. Not tracking pixels. Not cryptocurrency miners. Little surprises.
Some people call them Easter eggs, but if you've ever sat through one of my presentations over the last fifteen years, you'll know I've always preferred hidden secrets. It just sounds more intriguing.

For the last five or six years I have spent a week every summer in Athens with Nicholas Dionysopoulos. It isn't a conference, there is no agenda, and if anyone were watching us from a nearby balcony they would probably conclude that we were doing very little at all. We spend hours talking about Joomla, eating far too much excellent food and, every now and then, sharing a beer or two. It has become something of a tradition, and one that I look forward to more and more each year.

The Jooa11y Accessibility Checker is a hidden gem in Joomla. It was intended to check articles in the backend. It helps editors writing accessible content. But it also makes checks easy in the frontend. Accessibility tools are like superheroes: They all have cool powers, they all want to save the web but they come in different capes and have different superpowers. It is not a battle, each tool brings its strengths. Jooa11y has the best presentation of errors and warnings.

When I started SoftForge, I was maintaining my own content management system. I say "system"; it was a poorly crafted piece of coding that I was nursing along single-handedly, and it existed to satisfy one deceptively simple request from a client. They wanted to be able to wake up at four in the morning, log in, and post their own article. That was it. That was the whole brief, and it very nearly broke me.
