AI extensions you can use with Joomla

June-AI

Artificial intelligence (AI) is on the march, coming to the fore in many different industries and work spaces. Its impact is already felt online, with more content and images being artificially generated. What can we do with AI right now in conjunction with Joomla? This article explores what's already out there and what could be around the corner for joomla and AI.

In my last article https://magazine.joomla.org/all-issues/may-2023/artificial-intelligence-is-it-naturally-to-use-it-with-joomla
I looked at the creation of AI and focused on Chat GPT and Bard.

A read through the JED shows several AI products already there, and it would be good to look through those and see where they are at, but before delving into those, let us look at a few AI tools we can use with Joomla not in Joomla and then later we can look at those that plug directly in Joomla itself.

AI tools to use with Joomla

There are a number of AI products that can be used with Joomla. I will group them, so first up, we have the content curation AI tools.

Content Curation

These tools scour the web for you from a list of keywords you supply. The tool then brings back articles that can be used to form new curated content. Some of these tools will form your content and can plug into social media tools to push the content out.

The following all have an element of AI either in how they curate the content or in how they learn from your use of the tool to bring faster, more relevant results for you.

Some of these have APIs that could be used to plug the content into your Joomla site.

I use a few tools, not these, in my daily routine for client content creation, such as https://contentstudio.io/, which, although not AI-driven when I first started to use it, has included AI in more and more areas to help speed the development of your content and bring back the most relevant keywords and meta descriptions.

 AI Art Generators

Next in our lists of AI helpers are the art generators.

Some are ok and offer a free trial or insist that you join Discord and use channels to interact with the API and get the images.
I have yet to find one I am happy with; the resulting images can be odd and mixed in quality.

It can be pretty hit-and-miss with the way AI interprets the description, and so often, multiple iterations are needed to hone down to the image you have in your mind's eye. Adding logos or anything with writing in seems surreal as the letters often appear in an elvish dialect.

Here are three examples of AI images.

I asked for a sunset.

 image2

Not bad but next a little more challenging.

A cricket match on a village green.

image3

So rather odd when you look closely; the positioning of the players is all wrong. Some of the people are missing limbs or oddly shaped, and where are the wickets and bails?

Lastly, a combination, a Cricket match with sunset.

Again, it's more random art with a hint of homage to cricket than the real thing!

Can we trust AI?

In my last article, I explained that AI can tell whoppers, and when it does, it does so with gusto.
The same with AI-generated images; there are examples where AI does a brilliant job and adds an extra leg or arm or an extra setting sun!

So with a significant caveat emptor on all AI output, check, check, and check again.

Artificial intelligence Joomla Extensions

AI Content Rewriter

https://extensions.joomla.org/extension/authoring-a-content/content-construction/ai-content-rewriter/

Described by its author as "a powerful extension that can help you to create engaging and informative content for your Joomla website, with the help of OpenAI artificial intelligence."

Open AI Content Import

https://extensions.joomla.org/extension/authoring-a-content/content-construction/open-ai-content-import/

"Plugin will help you import auto-generated content into com_content article and K2 Articles.

This plugin works together with AI Content Generator Component.

You must install AI Content Generator Component.

OpenAI generates the content, and you can import the content into the articles by using this plugin."

Both have had a number of reviews.

ChatGPT for Articles

https://extensions.joomla.org/extension/authoring-a-content/content-construction/chatgpt-for-articles/

Its tagline is "This Joomla Editor-xtd plugin allows article editors to use OpenAI ChatGPT straight from inside the Joomla article form (and eventually in other extensions) to create article content, meta description and keywords automatically."

4AI Community edition

https://extensions.joomla.org/extension/authoring-a-content/4ai-community-edition/

4AI Paid edition

https://extensions.joomla.org/extension/authoring-a-content/4ai/

I was privileged to see the 4AI component released when I attended Joomla Day Netherlands.
What I particularly liked about Yannick Gaultier's talk before he pushed the button to launch it was his understanding of the limitations of AI. He highlighted the pitfalls as well as the benefits.
He describes the tool as: "4AI is a state-of-the-art Joomla extension that gives you an always-on AI-powered assistant to create and revise the content of your website."
And the key word has to be "assistant"; it's not going to take over and do it all for you, but the tool can assist and help with meta descriptions, translations and lots of tasks that you can do, but it takes time to do.

What AI-powered Joomla tools have you discovered?

That wraps it up for my review of AI and what's available in the Joomla Extensions Directory, JED.
Please post any Extensions that are AI-powered or AI tools you have come across and share your thoughts in the comments section.

AI is here to stay; this is one genie not going back in the bottle, so embracing it personally and within Joomla seems right.
Enjoy the ride!

AI, Caveat Emptor and Joomla! Forum

Thank you for an interesting and timely article! Indeed, caveat emptor. People relying blindly on AI can get caught, like in the recent US legal case about fake citations or legal precedents shows.

There are news that some software developers have generated working program code by using AI. AI can also have something to offer as a support tool, at least in gathering and presenting information from different identified online sources.

At The Joomla! Forum™ we moderators had to draw a line in the sand to stop individuals and spam bots from regurgitating obsolete and often inaccurate content from our own and other support forums.

The Forum rules now state "No useless posts. This includes: AI Generated content". When a new topic or a reply to an existing topic is posted, there is a reminder at the top of the form: "Please avoid using AI to generate your answer, as our forum encourages authentic human interactions."

The same way we can use a search engine to detect plagiarism, there are online tools to help us separate the wheat from the chaff, in other words, genuine human responses from text produced by generative AI. Never forget the GiGo principle!
