Joomla! is proud to announce that it has been selected as a mentoring organization for the Google Summer of Code™ (GSoC) 2025 program. This year brings exciting changes, including expanded eligibility beyond college students, allowing a wider range of contributors to participate and make an impact.

Become a Mentor for GSoC 2025!

We are excited to invite you to become a mentor for Google Summer of Code (GSoC) 2025 with Joomla!

GSoC is a global initiative that runs entirely online, launched by Google in 2005. Sponsored and organized by Google, the program encourages students of all ages to contribute to Free Open Source Software (FOSS) projects.

The Joomla GSoC team manages Joomla’s participation in the program. We are a dedicated group of volunteers, each with specific roles, working together to create new features that will enhance Joomla during the summer. Every project undertaken for Joomla! is supported by mentors who play a crucial role in helping contributors achieve their goals.

As a mentor, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to the growth of Joomla, give back to the community, and help shape the next generation of open-source contributors.

Contributors can choose from the following projects, each aimed at enhancing Joomla’s core functionalities and shaping Joomla 5.x and beyond:

1. Project I: API Improvements
   • Develop a standardized model for content exchange between different Content Management Systems, improving integration and migration processes.
2. Project II: Workflow Enhancements
   • Automate workflow transitions and enhance the scheduler functionality for improved user experience.
3. Project III: Weblinks Enhancements
   • Upgrade the Weblinks component to optimize usability and functionality.
4. Project IV: Joomla! AI Framework
   • Integrate artificial intelligence capabilities into Joomla, introducing intelligent features and applications.
