Since March 2007, over 30 million copies of the Joomla software have been downloaded according to Joomla.org. Joomla is the world's most popular full-featured Content Management System (CMS) and powers approximately 2.7% of the 1,000,000 largest websites in the world. These websites are in a variety of fields, such as education, arts, media, sports, business, science, technology, health, etc.

It is clear that Joomla is becoming more and more popular and reliable. There are many well-known labels or brands which are using this free CMS to build their own website. I'm sure that you know at least some of Joomla showcases. Thus, in this article, I will introduce you to a mini showcase of 10 of the most popular websites using Joomla.

1. Harvard University - The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences

From here, you can access directions, parking information, facts about Harvard University, listings of events and exhibitions, and much more.

The website works with K2 to create website content for announcing news, giving information, showing pictures of the school, etc. - to their students as well as visitors.

So far, this is my favorite website not only because it uses Joomla 2.5 to manage the web, but also because of their stunning design and graphics. Furthermore, ACE utilizes many different Joomla extensions in the website such as Rocktabs, RokNavMenu to create tabs and menus, JomSocial for social networking, Core Design Login to display the username and password login form, and many others.

The web builder uses many extensions; for example, Phoca Documentation to display a table of contents in the Joomla extensions directory, K2 for Joomla! Blogs and Joomla! Magazine, JomSocial for the Joomla! People site, and many others.

This is a newspaper website, it's full of news, videos and blogs which are well-presented. You can easily find each section via the drop-down menus at the top of the page and the menu on the left-hand side of the page. The website use Disqus Comment as a tool to let readers comment on their page.

It's good to know that they use Joomla to build their website. Moreover, there are some Joomla extensions they applied to the website such as Frontpage Slideshow and Community Answers. Frontpage Slideshow is displayed at the centre of the page and shows the latest news or information about Linux. Meanwhile, Community Answer in Linux answer helps the Linux team to quickly find and answer questions in different categories from visitors and users.

Another technology website named iTWire is a powerful source of top-line Internet and Technology news, information and community news for industry professionals. iTWire puts technology news and developments from around the globe into perspective, covering all the important sectors of IT&T in Australia and globally.

On the main page of Itwire.com, to show hot and important news, they use Lof ArticlesSlideShow. This website also allows visitors to comment easily on all articles by using Disqus Comment.

7. Guggenheim

Again, Frontpage Slideshow is the websites' favorite for revealing news and information. It's not too hard to notice this popular extension on the homepage.
