What is a Community Liaison, what do they do and do you have what it takes to become one? All good questions that this article is intended to answer. And in answering we deal with the beating heart of volunteer Open Source community-driven projects just like Joomla!
Joomla has many features that make it different from other large Open Source projects and one of them is the number of languages it supports.
Language packs
It is the people who use Joomla and have a passion for their local community and language who take the time to translate and develop the language packs.
This is a work of love and dedication that can serve their country and language.

So that's the story of language packs that you can install into Joomla.
My first plea to you is simply this: if you can personally write in any of the languages not in the Joomla 4 and Joomla 5 list, please do consider getting involved and producing the missing language packs.
And if you would like to produce some totally new language packs for Joomla that we have never had before, then please consider putting the time in to promote your language.
Local Community Liaisons, what do they do?
Now, we have established the importance of languages in Joomla and how widely they pervade the project. What are the local community liaisons?
They are the people who put the effort into translating the Joomla release news into their local languages and placing them on their websites.
The translations are then added at the bottom of every release so that people can read about it in their own language, spreading the news to a much wider community than just the English-speaking nations.
The main languages that regularly appear at the bottom of Joomla releases are:
- Dutch
- French
- German
- Italian
- Russian
- Turkish
Wouldn’t it be great if we could add many, many, more languages to more sites that shout out the Joomla notices in the first language of the reader? You too can join this fantastic group of individuals who take the release notices and spread them to a much wider audience!
The article to be translated is released a day before with artwork and a PSD file of the images so that the graphics can also be localised.
The articles are not published until the main article goes live, just in case of an issue with the release.
This is an opportunity to do something brilliant for both Joomla and your local community.
