JWC 2014 is Just Around the Corner!

This year’s conference is shaping up to be better than ever with an amazing lineup of keynotes, some exciting new workshops that will be presented this year, and much more! The call for sessions closed at the end of August, but while our organizing team is creating the full conference schedule, we already have some exciting announcements for what’s happening this year, and some of the amazing people you can expect to hear from at the 2014 Joomla! World Conference. Oh, and an opportunity for you to win free conference tickets!

Conference Keynote Speakers

We’re very excited about the amazing speakers lined up to keynote JWC 2014. Representing a wide range of expertise, and industry pioneers, this years speakers will share their knowledge on everything from development, and open source communities, to GPL licensing and a repeat appearance of the amazing Joomla! Ignite.

Deb Nicholson

Deb NicholsonAs the the Community Outreach Director at the Open Invention Network and the Community Manager at GNU MediaGoblin, Deb brings a wide range of expertise and experience to open source development, and working with disperse open source communities.

Deb joined us for the 2013 JWC for her popular session on “Delegate Like a Boss”, which she’s following this year with “How to Say No Like a Boss”, sharing tips and ideas for how to avoid burnout and fatigue in enthusiastic open source development.

Holly Hasbritt Gaal

Holly Hasbritt GaalHolly joins us from Mozilla, where her role as a User Experience Lead allows her to work with the global Mozilla community as the contribute to building an open web.

Holly brings her expertise to share with the Joomla! community her experiences in working with diverse open source development communities, and how to manage development, feedback, and collaboration in global communities.

Dave Stokes

Dave StokesDave Stokes is a MySQL Community Manager for Oracle and previously was the Certification Manager for MySQL AB and Sun.

Dave learned to program and administer computers way back in the last century, and has degrees in computers and business plus scads of various certifications. He grew up in Southern California, but now lives in Texas where he does not have enough time to ride his motorcycle.

 

Carol Smith

Carol SmithCarol joins the Joomla! World Conference from Google, where her role as the Open Source Programs Manager overseeing the Google Summer of Code program has had her working closely with the Joomla! project and it’s annual involvement with GSoC.

We’re excited to hear more about the how the global GSoC program impacts and helps open source projects, and get some insight from the Joomla! GSoC team on the contributions from this years GSoC projects.

Joomla! Ignite

ignite duke thumb 150x150The popular Joomla! Ignite session returns for a second year headed by Duke Speer. Following the popular Ignite presentation format for a fun and engaging session, ten speakers have five minutes to present their idea or topic.

Last year’s session was full of ideas for the Joomla community, and had plenty of laughs. If you’ve got something you think the Joomla community would like to hear about, there’s still time to be a part of this session! Head on over to www.JoomlaIgnite.com for more info.

Workshops

This is the first year that the Joomla! World Conference will include a series of extended workshops for developers and Joomla administrators on some popular topics. Designed to be interactive, and engaging, these workshops will provide an in-depth look at common problems and needs that Joomla users see every day. Follow us on Twitter or Facebook for more announcements and details about these extended workshops for developers, designers, and Joomla site administrators.

Spanish Track

For the first time, the Joomla! World Conference will be multi-lingual! This year we’ll have a dedicated Spanish-language track showcasing the amazing talent and expertise of the Latin American and Spanish speaking community. An entire track, with daily sessions will be entirely in Spanish, including a Spanish language workshop. We’re excited about the opportunity to include more people, and diverse communities in the JWC.

You heard that right, we have an opportunity for you to get your JWC event ticket for free! The JWC is focused on bringing together, and showcasing the global Joomla! community. We love hearing from Joomla users and groups around the world, but what we really enjoy is seeing our community from across the globe.

So here’s how you can get some free tickets. Whether it’s a picture of you attending a previous JWC, a local JoomlaDay or Joomla! User Group, or even enjoying Joomla in the wild, simply post a picture of your favorite experience with Joomla! or the Joomla! community to Twitter or Facebook, make sure to include the hashtag #JWC14pic, and you’ll be entered for a chance to win a pair of free JWC tickets! You have until September 15th to post your pictures and enter the contest! Our team will review all submissions, choose our favorites, and notify the winners by September 20th.
