Why is the Joomla certification program important?
The Joomla certification program will ensure the competence of Joomla professionals. Joomla certification exams will go beyond training by providing a documented measurement of knowledge. The Joomla certification program will establish a standard and play an important role in choosing a Joomla service provider or developing a qualified workforce. Joomla professionals, Joomla service users and employers will all benefit from the certification.
Step 1: A discovery phase
How can you help?
We are looking for volunteers to join the discovery phase. At the JWC, we have asked interested individuals to come forward and get involved in the work of creating this program. We now would also like to ask the wider community to get involved with this very exciting program. During the discovery phase we need a large variation of volunteers with different backgrounds and experience in areas like training, support, development, hiring, management etc.

Description
To start the project "The Joomla Certification Program" we will define the areas to certify along with defining the skillsets required to get certified in the different areas during the discovery phase. The discovery phase is planned to start January 2nd and end February 15th, 2013.
Outcome
A document defining the areas to certify as well as the skill sets required for each area. When the discovery phase is over we will pass this document to the working groups. Then we have the same mindset to work towards for all working groups.

We are looking for volunteers to apply to join the working groups to make the Joomla certification project successful. The community members that help out during the discovery phase are more than welcome apply to also join one of the working groups.

Description
The working groups that are formed will initially start with creating the certification program as well as getting the tools for the prepare for the exams/tests like training and documentation.
When everything is launched the working groups will get feedback, adjust the exams/tests and tools when called for. They will also set up a process for how to adjust the exams/tests and tools for every new version of Joomla. It will be an ongoing process.
Team for Certification Program
- Design the tests/exams or find a company to partner up with.
- Set a plan on how the certification program should be marketed and communicated.
- How to plan for internationalization of the program.
If you have a background in working with certification programs before, if worked with communications etc this could be a great working group for you.
Team for Certification Documentation
- Identify how the current documentation and books available are supporting the certification areas.
- Define if and how the documentation should be adjusted to be a great asset for those preparing for the certification tests/exams.
- Working on getting the documentation in place.
If you have a background in working with producing documentations, writing books etc this could be a great working group for you.
Team for Certification Training
- Identify the companies that conduct training on Joomla.
- Find out what they need to get started conduct training on Joomla to prepare their participants to take the certification ie training materials and training for trainers.
- Working on getting the need satisfied.
If you have a background in working with producing training materials, conduct trainings, organized train the trainer classes this could be a great working group for you.
Outcome
A Joomla Certification Program to be launched during 2013.
