What is Software Freedom Day?
Software Freedom Day (SFD) was initiated by a group of FOSS believers, Matt Oquist, Henrik Omma and Phil Harper with the idea of distributing The OpenCD to everyone.

Meeting people from other Open Source projects
Sander Potjer, who was recently invited to join the Joomla Community Leadership Team, shares his past experience of Software Freedom Day:
Software Freedom Day is a great possibility to meet other open source projects, Joomla users and a perfect way to tell people more about Joomla. During the 2010 edition of Software Freedom Day in the Netherlands we promoted Joomla with a stand and I gave a presentation about Joomla for interested people. We and the visitors liked our presence!
Akarawuth (Krit) Tamrareang, who is one of the Open Source Matters (OSM) board members, says that he will be involved with Software Freedom Day in Bankok: www.softwarefreedomday.in.th. Many of his friends are also in other Open Source projects, like Ubuntu, Open Office, L10N project, and they will all come together for this event. Krit says that SFD is not about Joomla only, but about working together with others:
It will be easy when we have more hands to join. Any activity about Open Source software on that day, in your office, university or wherever, you can can use to celebrate Software Freedom Day. Just do whatever you can!
