Happy 2nd Birthday, JCM!

The Joomla! Community Magazine celebrates its 2nd birthday this month! Since July 2010, there have been 503 articles published in 18 languages. According to Google Analytics, we have had 1,118,483 unique visits to the site, with 1,769,164 page views! Not bad for a two year old!
I first heard about Liam while at JAB12. Sander Potjer told me about this remarkable 10-year-old in The Netherlands who has been involved with Joomla since 2010, so I contacted him to ask if we could interview him for the JCM. Grab a Stroopwafel and get to know Liam Edwards!
I recently sat down with Robert Deutz, OSM Board member and Events Team Leader, to learn more about the upcoming Joomla World Conference to be held in November, 2012.

Joomla! Around the World…

As we all know, Joomla is a volunteer project made of up dedicated community members from around the world. It is the diversity and commitment of these members which makes Joomla so powerful, that and of course, the platform and framework behind it! There is a lot going on around the Joomla world…
For three days in May, Joomla! lovers are invited to come to Chicago for the 6th annual CMS Expo Learning and Business Conference. Every conference has featured a full schedule of Joomla learning sessions, and 2012 will carry on that proud tradition! What started in 2008 as a conference for lovers of Joomla CMS has grown for the past four years into a full-blown conference for the entire CMS Community.
Imagine this... You are a Joomla community member not living in the USA. You want to show your Joomla love by purchasing and wearing a Joomla t-shirt... Two problems. Shipping and customs. Been there? Done that? Didn't get the t-shirt?

JAB is not Just Another Beer!

Brian Teeman, a Joomla! founder, speaker and FOSS aficionado, also wears another hat as an organizer of J and Beyond (JAB). As we approach JAB12, I sat down with Brian to find out what will be happening at the weekend-long conference this year.

The Road Forward...

I write this from San Jose following the third and closing day of the Joomla! Leadership Summit. This has been an incredible few days, not only for meeting fellow leadership team members, but also for discussing and making concrete plans for pushing the project forward.

J is for Joy...

Joomla! is a huge, worldwide community, encompassing many languages and many cultures. When we are able to work and collaborate together, we can do amazing things with incredible results. When we bring our joy into what we do, it is shared with all.
NBC Los Angeles called Samantha Farrell "the best singer-songwriter you still haven't heard of," and that had to change. Her solution? A Joomla! website to integrate her music sales, performance schedule, multimedia and blog, made entirely with open source software from the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

Inspiration, and the Winds of Change...

Joomla! is a volunteer community. And, within that community, people come, people go, people stay. With each new arrival or departure, there are opportunities for change. Inspiration. A new direction, or a different way of looking at things. The changes may be subtle, or a total in-your-face-whammy. You, the User/Developer/Designer, may see it, or you may not. But know this... Change is inspiration, and, like the wind, it can go in many directions.

Have you heard of Joomla!?

With the release of Jen Kramer's Joomla! 1.6 Beta Preview title last week, many people are wondering what Joomla! and other content management systems are all about, and how they can apply this technology in their own lives. lynda.com producer Samara Iodice explains the process behind putting together a great course. And learns to love Joomla! in the process, thanks to author Jen Kramer.

Joomla! Rising!

According to Wikipedia, “Joomla!” is the Romanized spelling of the Swahili word jumla meaning “all together” or “as a whole”. The very definition of Joomla! invokes a sense of community; and what a diverse and talented community we are! We span the globe, our skill sets range from development to design, from coding to communication. We are multilingual, multinational and multicultural. And, we are volunteers.
