Joomla! returns to HostingCon Global

Joomla! returns to HostingCon Global

Last year Joomla! made its first appearance at HostingCon Global 2016, the premier hosting and networking conference. The four-day event was a complete success with a two-hour session on how Joomla! can increase your ROI and the Joomla! in the Exposition Hall. We made many new friends and connections. Mike Demopolous was on fire, holding over forty one-on-one meetings that gained several new sponsors for the project.

HostingCon's mission is to provide essential industry knowledge and intelligence in an unbiased platform. It is the only North American event that is designed entirely to serve the good of the cloud and service provider community. The conference is attended by professionals who appreciate the vendor-neutral environment in which there is no product or service sales pitches or "pay to play" speakers. Every presenter, speaker, panelist and vendor represented throughout the robust conference agenda is there as a subject-matter expert or industry leader sharing expertise to benefit the best interests of the professional community.

One of the biggest things we learned is that Joomla! needs to be more visible at events such as HostingCon. On a side note - Joomla! was the only open source CMS to have an expo booth at HostingCon Global 2016! This understanding led Joomla! to HostingCon Europe 2016.

The European event yielded the same response, with Dennis Buis, Martijn Boomsma, Peter Martin, and Sander Potjer on hand representing the project.

Our issues with the project stem from our past, with backward compatibility, security, ease of use, and more. In these high-profile events, we can showcase the project, gain new sponsors and volunteers, dispel rumors, and put a face to the project.

One of the highlights for us was finding out that most of the attendees did not know that Joomla was a not-for-profit, entirely volunteer-powered project, and they thought we were corporate-backed, just like some our other competitors.

"What is Joomla," "what is Joomla doing here," and "I'm using Joomla for ages, happy to see you here!" were frequent quotes from our past HostingCon adventures and are perfect examples of why we need to attend these conferences.

Cheryl Kemp, the conference content director, added, "We are so excited the Joomla! project participated in hosting this year. Open-source projects are a vital part of our ecosystem, and what they bring to the industry is great."

Overall, we know that Joomla needs to reach outside our community. In this changing market, we need to make sure our message is clear - "We are here to stay."

We will show we are here to stay in 2017 at HostingCon Global 2017. This year's event takes place April 3-6 at the L.A. Convention Center in Los Angeles, California, and we will be there! This year Jason Nickerson (Site Showcase Team) and Robert Jacobi (Production Leadership Team) will be spreading the Joomla! message at our expo booth. Our mission for HostingCon Global 2017 is to increase visibility, educate hosting companies on how to market Joomla! to their customers, and create new partnerships.

Find us at HostingCon Global 2017 Booth 440 and share the Joomla! love.
