5 Great Reasons to Become a JCM Author

5 Great Reasons to Become a JCM Author

I have been part of the Joomla! Community Magazine team for an year now, and it has been a very rewarding and inspiring experience, not to mention the many new things I’ve learned and the wonderful people I have met as a result of my participation in the project.

So I thought it would be a good idea to give you my five great reasons for being a JCM writer, hoping that this quick list would help those interested in contributing to the magazine make a more informed decision and hopefully join us soon. So here goes…

Reason #1: Spread the Joomla! knowledge and help others — it’s a great feeling.

Do you have a fun fact about Joomla! that you want to share, or have you recently developed a Joomla! project that you are really proud of, or better yet, were you able to solve a challenging customer requirement using your Joomla expertise? Send us a quick note about it and we will let you know when we can get it published.

Becoming a JCM writer is quick and easy. You are not “glued” to a specific theme and you are not required to send articles every month. You are certainly not required to be a professional writer either. At the same time, it is a great way for you to become involved, because your opinion as a Joomla! user matters. The JCM has a host of themes that cover a wide variety of Joomla! implementation and showcase-related topics — from the Developer’s workbench to the Designers’ Studio to Website Case Studies, to Did you know?...

So pick a subject, and write about it — it’s really great to share your knowledge, especially considering that there are probably thousands of people out there who might be looking exactly for the solution that you have found and who would appreciate tremendously your help and advice.

Reason # 2: Get featured. Get more visibility.

As a JCM author, you will get your very own dedicated page that will feature your picture and your profile, along with your articles — a great way for you to promote your online persona and expand your visibility on the web. Since the JCM website is highly ranked, your chances of being at the top of Google search results when someone types your name will increase dramatically, and that’s a pretty good option to have.

Reason # 3: Get more SEO power

In your profile, you can highlight a link to your website, which will effectively get you a very valuable backlink from one of the highest ranking websites with a very high-authority domain: Joomla.org. As you know, .org domains have a very high ranking value and are extremely hard to get, so this is an opportunity you don’t want to miss.

Reason # 4: Develop your own fan base

Being a “published” writer can trigger amazing web-wide visibility, especially if users perceive your articles as original or fun to read, or as the source of solid and easy-to-follow advice. The more you write, the better your writing skills become and the more loyal readers you are likely to get. And that’s great, because who wouldn’t want to have a fan base, a ton of Facebook “likes” and hundreds of Twitter mentions these days?

Reason # 5: You can become an expert.

Yes, writing can give you credibility, establish you as the “pro” people go to when they have questions or need to resolve issues related to the subject or subjects you are covering. And it could open the door to many and exciting professional, collaborative, educational and other opportunities.

So, if you think that the 5 reasons outlined above are convincing enough, here is what you need to do if you want to become a JCM writer.
