Joomla! World Conference 2026

Someone has to maintain Joomla. Fortunately, it is not just one person.

The Joomla Maintenance Team is responsible for keeping the Joomla codebase healthy. That means fixing bugs, reviewing contributions, improving existing code and making sure new changes do not create problems for everyone else.

It is important work.

It is also quite rewarding.

You get to work on a large open-source project, with experienced developers from around the world. You see how decisions in the codebase affect millions of Joomla installations. And you get to argue about whether something really needs another interface.

We are looking for new members

You do not need to be a Joomla expert. What you should have is good software development experience, especially with PHP, and an interest in writing and reviewing code. You should enjoy solving problems and working with other developers.

Extension developers: please join!

Being a Joomla third-party developer is a big plus. Working on extensions, templates or other projects outside the Joomla core gives you a different perspective on how the CMS is used in the real world. We need that perspective.

Steady contributions help

We are looking for people who want to contribute regularly. You don't need to spend every evening working on Joomla, but a steady contribution helps the team enormously. It means we can rely on each other, keep things moving and actually get things finished.

We also meet every week. The weekly meeting is a place to discuss technical questions, review decisions, coordinate work and simply talk about what is happening in the codebase.

You don't have to do everything yourself.
That's rather the point of having a team.

Interested?

You don't have to wait for a sprint, a conference or the next big Joomla release.

Joomla needs maintainers all year round.
