Joomla! World Conference 2026

Joomla World Conference starts on Friday. We’re starting one day earlier: on Thursday, 15 October, the Joomla Maintenance Team will meet at the conference venue in Potsdam for another hands-on sprint towards Joomla 7.0.

Yes, we are going to remove more old code.

No, we have not run out of it yet.

After our first sprint in June, we removed more than 100 deprecation notices and started working through the long list of things that have been deprecated for quite some time.

And we already did it once again.

A second Maintenance Team sprint took place since then. It was not published in the Magazine. We simply got on with the work. More deprecated code was removed, more pull requests were created and reviewed, and Joomla 7.0 moved another step forward.

Now it is time for sprint number three.

The goal remains the same: make Joomla 7.0 cleaner, reduce legacy code and finally get rid of things that have been deprecated for long enough.

This is not a strategy meeting.

It is not a workshop where someone shows slides for three hours.

We write code. We review code. We delete code.

And occasionally we ask ourselves why that piece of code still exists.

Want to join?

If you have development experience and are available on Thursday, 15 October, come and help us make Joomla 7.0 a little better.

The sprint takes place at the Kongresshotel Potsdam, the same location as the Joomla World Conference.
