Volunteering Mode

This story is about volunteering for Joomla and one of our volunteer's favourite bands.  If someone had come to me 12 years ago and asked me to be part of a software project distributed for free, with no salary for employees, I would have laughed and walked away. Now, 12 years into the Joomla project I find myself volunteering more and getting more excited about the future of Joomla.
One of the cool things at Joomla conferences like the Joomla & Beyond conference are the ‘Make it Happen’ sessions. These are a great way to get people at the conference involved in the contribution process. As we do every year, Joomla Marketing did its own Make it Happen. Here’s a quick look at the what happened !

JUG Round Up June 2017

Welcome to the JUG Round Up! The JUG Team is thrilled to have added the Rules and FAQs and Terms of Service for Joomla! User Groups into Joomla! Documentation. Eric Lamy has translated them into French and Bruce Valle has translated them into Spanish (THANK YOU ERIC & BRUCE!). The goal of the JUG Team is to have these translated into as many languages as possible to help new Joomla! User Groups that are forming understand the rules and what needs to be done. This will save time in processing and approvals. If you can help translate the two documents, please just go to docs.joomla.org and register and start translating. If you have questions, let us know at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

JUG Round Up April 2017

In March, the JUG Team sent out their first of what will be a monthly newsletter to JUG Organisers. The topic was merely to ask Organisers to come and check their listings on the JUG Directory for accuracy. We had a number of bounced email addresses and have opened tickets wherever possible to get more listings up to date. Many JUGs updated their listings. Thank you!

JUG Round Up March 2017

February was a slower month in the JUG community around the world. Perhaps we’re all hibernating or just plain busy.

The Joomla Community Magazine Public Room

in March 2015 the Joomla! Project announced its partnership with Glip, a business messaging app with built-in productivity tools. This partnership has enabled Joomla to streamline communication among its many teams and volunteers while providing a unified approach to tracking tasks, files and events. Over the last month, the JCM Public Room was created to facilitate the discussion and exchange of ideas between the JCM Team and anyone who is interested in contributing to the magazine.

How do you express a disagreement?

These days it seems that in social networks, only negative comments are published. If a new initiative is launched, there are negative critics about why it is done and why it was not done otherwise. Also, there are those who aim to point out what is missing to complete it and that without it is useless. If you decide not to implement an idea, critics can only say that it was a bad idea. These comments are created without thinking, the product of elaborating a critic in 5 minutes, and dumped forever in social media. Without considering the time and effort of the volunteers, who in their precious free time, collaborate with the project.

JUG Round Up February 2017

Way back in the past, Ruth Cheesley used to write up a monthly Magazine article on Joomla User Group (JUG) happenings. The JUG Team is bringing that back to tell you about new JUGs that have registered, and tidbits from JUG Organisers around the world.

Joomlers: Merav Knafo

iJoomla and JomSocial owner Merav Knafo kindly agreed to talk to "Joomla! Community Magazine" on what has been major highlights for her team in 2014 but due to a logistical issue this interview was not published in due time as planned. Read on to learn about her experience of becoming a new "sheriff" in JomSocial "town" which she acquired two years ago; on how she and her team are striving to create a "WOW" factor; on her favourite food Sushi and on how today's computing graduates should approach pursuing their dreams of building their own web-development business.
