In October 2025, members of the Greek Joomla community, led by Bill Kotsias, were invited to speak at the University of the Aegean in Samos. Their goal: to introduce Joomla — one of the leading open-source CMS platforms — to students and educators in Greece.
Over the years, Joomla has participated a number of times in Google Summer of Code, an initiative that empowers students to learn a lot about software development by contributing to open source projects. GSoC has shown us more than once how valuable students can be for Joomla. So what would be more logical than creating our own breeding ground? JCM interviews Philip Walton, the man with the plan. This year, coming out of the Forum for the Future event was the re-igniting of the Joomla Educational Outreach (JEO) Working Group. This group of motivated individuals came together with a common goal of wanting to spread awareness and training of Joomla! through the education community. It took a few months to get our feet under us and now we are poised to move in 2021.
From 14 to 19 April 2020 the German-speaking Joomla community started the project "Kids bauen Webseiten” (Kids build websites).
