Leadership interview - Nadja Lamisch, Treasurer

Nadja-Lamish

She has been passionate about Joomla since version 2.5, and over the years become more involved in the Joomla Community. After her first term as Joomla’s treasurer on the Board of Open Source Matters, she got re-elected for a second term. It very much looks like together is her favorite word. Here’s Nadja Lamisch!

Nadja, congratulations on your re-election! Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Thank you very much. Thank you all for re-electing me.

For those who don't know me yet: my name is Nadja and I am a freelance web developer – obviously with a passion for Joomla 😊. I live with my family near Munich in Germany. My Joomla story started with Joomla 2.5 and since a few years I am more and more involved in the German community. For example, I have been am part of the organizing team for the German Joomladays since from 2019.

What made you run for Treasurer for a second term?

I want to give back to Joomla and the community. I enjoyed my first term and improved my knowledge of finance, bank accounts and international rules in this sector, in addition to my technical ambition of being a web developer.

On the basis of my first term, I have already been able to get into this discipline, to learn a lot and to organize myself in a better way. There are still a lot of things that I would like to optimize and that is why I needed a second turn to get it all done.

What difficulties did you face in your first term? How did you overcome them?

There was a lot to learn. In this case it was both, and I had to set up documentationup a documentation of all the responsibilities, such as tracking incoming payments, membership renewals and so on. In particular, I had to learn how the European banking system differs from the US. Of course, one of the best parts of the job was expanding my network within the community and finding out how the organization works.

Looking back at your first term, what are you most proud of?

There have been no major problems so far, I have been able to get to grips with things and the work instructions are on the right track.

Tell us a little more about your tasks as Treasurer...

Having checklists and structure is really useful 😊

I am in regular contact with our bookkeeper. We have quarterly meetings to keep up to date.

I provide her with all the statements, invoices, etc. on a monthly basis.

I check our income and expenditure and keep an eye on our budgets.

In your opinion, what is Joomla’s biggest challenge right now?

I truly believe that Joomla, like any volunteer organization, is made by the people, for the people. It needs knowledgeable people to make it better. Getting the right people on the right team, working together in a professional and fair manner for the system we all love.

What would you like to see happen in your next term?

Inspire new volunteers, spread the responsibility over to more heads and grow Team Joomla!.
