Sponsors are the greatest partners that help Joomla World Conference be a reality. Teamwork is important and we stand together with a common goal in mind - to have a successful event. The Joomla Community Magazine invited our main sponsor to answer some questions. We would like to introduce you to Dre Armeda, co-founder of Sucuri Inc. and let our readers know a little bit more about the company and what they expect by sponsoring and attending this great gathering.

In a few words, tell us about Sucuri and how it helps its clients?

We help clean and protect websites. Since 2010 we have worked with thousands of companies, organisations and individuals alike to help them approach their websites with security in mind.

How long have you been sponsoring Joomla events?

The first event that comes to mind is Joomla Day Atlanta in April of 2014.

Sucuri is a global company. Besides the Joomla World Conference, which other Joomla events around the world have you sponsored?

We have sponsored various Joomla Day’s across the US and Brazil. We also sponsored Joomla World India in 2015.

What kind of interaction does Sucuri expect from sponsoring the Joomla World Conference?

Our goal is to bring overall awareness to website security to everyone at Joomla World Conference. The importance of security is often undervalued and we feel we can help educate and reduce the risk for everyone we chat with.

What are you planning to present during the event?

I think it’s important for people to really think about how real the security threats online are. There are potentially devastating impacts that can be incurred if we’re not implementing appropriate controls. I will be talking about the inherent risks we deal with across open-source CMS applications and our entire stack. I will also talk about back to brass tacks as a means to provide a security framework that organisations can adapt and deploy to improve their security posture.

Sucuri is the name in Brazil for the Anaconda. What is the relation with the company’s name?

This is a great question!

Sucuri was the name given to a Brazilian tank destroyer in the 1980s, the EE-18 Sucuri tank destroyer.

Daniel, the man that has programmed every line of code in our technology, was having an evening alone with his grandfather. He shared his thoughts on what he was building and how lost he was on what to call it. Understand Daniel's family history stems from a long line of Brazilian military men. His father is an active Four-Star General in the Brazilian Army, specialising in tank / artillery warfare.

After hearing his technological dream, Daniel's grandpa could see no other more fitting name than Sucuri. He went on to explain the deeply rooted history of the tank destroyer and how the Brazilian Army depended on its superiority during earlier conflicts. This name is a way to pay tribute to that history and remind us of where and how this company was built.

Dre is Co-Founder at Sucuri Inc. He is a 12 year Navy veteran that fell in love with security and making stuff for the web. After his Navy days, Dre held various leadership positions in the tech start-up world including companies such as Applied Watch Technologies, Secure-i Inc and WebDevStudios. He has been working on the internet since the late 90’s and speaks at various events every year about security, marketing, and business.
