Tips for Posting Your Event on the Joomla! Community Portal

May-Events

The Joomla! Community Portal event listing is a great place to share your Joomla and Joomla-Related event.

User Group meetings, JoomlaDay event, JoomlaCamp event, or a Joomla Roundtable are just a few of the types of events perfect for the community portal. Below are 6 tips to help get your event listed.

#1 - Register on the Community Portal

Before you can submit an event, you must be a registered user of the site. It only take a couple of minutes.

#2 - Submit Your Event

After logging into the site. Navigate to the Joomla Community Event page. In addition to displaying upcoming events, you can click the Submit an Event to get started. Better yet, bookmark the link for future events. Please submit your event as early as possible to the Events Team volunteers time to review. Typically, events are reviewed and published or comments sent back within 2-3 days.

#3 - Tell How You’re Meeting

When answering the How to Meet question, click one or both checkboxes to let attendees know if the event is in-person, online or both.

#4 - Add the Event to Your JUG Listing Page

When you Select Your JUG when the event is published it will appear on both the Event Listing Page and your JUG listing page. The list of JUGs is taken from the User Group Directory.  If your JUG is missing or needs updating, please submit a Help Desk ticket and the JUG Team will assist. If not a JUG meeting or event, simply skip the question.

#5 - Enter Your Event’s Hashtag

Your event should be shared, and to help make that happen, in the Social Share Text field, enter a short 130 character description. Fill in your event’s hashtag along with your Twitter and Facebook links. When the Events Team publishes an event, we notify the Social Media Team to help spread the news.

#6 - Request an Event Subdomain

One resource that you may not be aware of is that OpenSource Matters (OSM) has made available subdomains for use by User Groups and JoomlaDay events. The subdomain policy can be found here: https://www.opensourcematters.org/organisation/directors/policies/312-official-subdomain-licensing-policy.html  and to apply for use, please fill out this form: https://www.opensourcematters.org/subdomain-request.

That’s it!

Enter your event and the next time you visit the Joomla Community Portal, you’ll find it in the Upcoming Events section on the side in addition to you the Events Listing Page and your JUG listing.
