Joomla! Facebook Page Hits 100,000 Fans
We are excited and pleased to announce that our Joomla Facebook fan page has reached 100,000 fans. We couldn't have done this without our amazing fans and the team behind Joomla.org.
I was able to sit down with Sully Sullivan, a member of the Joomla! Social Media Team (responsible for our Facebook group), and ask....
What does it take to build a great community online?
The philosophy of the Facebook team has been to create an open and friendly community. We try to post at least one article every weekday that shares information from the Joomla! website about working with the Joomla! CMS and Platform. Many people come to the Joomla! fan page who don't know that the Forum exists to give them help, or how to find documentation to get started, and we try to orient those newcomers to the Joomla.org websites.
We allow people to discuss both what excites and what frustrates them about Joomla!, so long as they respect the Joomla! Volunteer Code of Conduct. That's led to some spirited and insightful conversations at times.
Facebook Fan Page Insights
Right now, the highest levels of interest in the Joomla! Facebook page are coming from central Asia and northern Africa, places where new goverments are taking root and the citizens are confronting major changes and new possibilites. That Joomla! websites are a major way people in those countries use to disseminate information is tremendously exciting.
Who is the Joomla! Team?
The current Joomla! Facebook team consists of Radek Suski, Sigrid Suski, Sully Sullivan, Gary Brooks, Steve Burge and Jacques Rentzke.
How do we do our work?
We post an article every weekday and look to answer questions from newcomers. Typically, those new community members need help learning to use the Forum, Extensions Directory and Joomla! Documentation
How has the Joomla! community changed the lives of people all around the world?
We've done some special campaigns. For instance, during the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, each day of the Olympiad we shared a Joomla! site used by the Olympic athletes teams or their sponsoring organizations. It has been amazing to see the interactions and how the community has loved seeing Olympians using Joomla. Joomla! changes lives on a large scale. We help people all around the world to have the tools they need to succeed online.
Special thanks to the community behind our Facebook Fan Page, you're what makes us better! Thanks for everything you do for us and in growing this online community. It couldn't happen without you!
