Do you have a few hours to help enhance Joomla’s latest feature, Guided Tours?

July-GuidedTours

Guided Tours in Joomla has been a prominent project within the Google Summer of Code (GSoC) program. Guided Tours was the main feature of the Joomla 4.3 release showcasing the power of teamwork and determination. This article highlights the ongoing efforts to refine and expand Guided Tours and the need for users who can help enhance the Guided Tours feature.

The completion of the Guided Tours project for Joomla 4.3 in March did not mark the end of development efforts. Olivier Buisard, Shirielle Williams, Philip Walton, Benjamin Trenkle, Geraint Edwards, Khushi Rauniyar, and Aaron Del Bosque, as well as  the help of many other Joomla contributors, are still committed to implementing new features, refining the tours and testing it thoroughly for the 5.0 release. We meet once a week to track the progress for 5.0 release and we have lots of brainstorming meetings for the exciting new features we're going to implement for the tours.

The enhancements proposed (so far) are:

  • Export and Installation of Tours
  • Tour Auto-Start with Welcome Tour
  • Improved Core Tour Step Descriptions
  • New Core Tour: Home Dashboard
  • Improved Implementation for 3rd-party Vendors

Those are the big enhancements, we also hope to include as many small  enhancements that improve the use of guided tours as we can get implemented and tested.

As you can see, Guided tours are getting better and better. User feedback plays a crucial role in shaping the evolution of Guided Tours.

Here’s where you come in…we need

  • Developers with a few hours to spare
  • Testers to help find bugs before release
  • Writers to help with wording of the steps
  • Anyone with ideas on how this feature can help those who are not yet Joomla experts build their sites

At the moment we're working towards the 5.0 release this October, which does not give us much time. (That means this is a short project if you are looking to volunteer without a long commitment this could be for you.)

WOW!

As an extension developer, I am thrilled to discover this feature!!!
I am already at it to create a tour for our flagship extension (will be happy to give you a user's feedback on how this goes).
