Roundup from JUG Corner - December 2013
With 159 user groups around the world, there is always something exciting and interesting happening in the Joomla! Community! This is a monthly round-up highlighting new Joomla! User Groups, events, and reviews of JUG meetings. If you have anything you would like me to feature from your Joomla User Group please send me an email at
As many of us around the world wind down for the holidays, Joomla! User Groups around the world are busy making plans for 2014 – how about making a resolution to join or form a User Group in your town next year?
If you're interested in starting up a JUG just visit the directory at community.joomla.org/user-groups.html and see whether there are any nearby. If not, all you need is somebody else to join you in starting the group, and a venue in which to meet. You'll also need some kind of online presence, ideally a website but you can also use Meetup.com or social networks to organise your group while you get a website off the ground.
JUG Registrations
Here are some of the JUG registrations which have been approved this month:
- Joomla! User Group Szczecin, Poland
- Joomla! User Group Amman, Jordan
- Joomla! User Group Dalls/Fort Worth, Texas
- Joomla! User Group Ahmedabad, India
JoomlaDay Events
There was also a JoomlaDay event in Lagos, Nigeria, the seventh event of its kind with four keynote speakers, which was well attended. For more information please visit http://www.joomlang.com/and check out the photo gallery here.
What's happening
I've had some great feedback from JUGs around the world this month, it's been a busy Joomla month! Here are a few reviews from various JUGs from around the world:
Joomla User Group Bay Area
Jennifer Gress writes that the annual 'Extension Pot Luck' event was well received, with each volunteer given 10-15 minutes to present an extension for Joomla 2.5 or 3. Of course, lots of food and drink were also shared! For a round-up of all the extensions covered, visit their website.
Joomla! User Group Enschede
Marijke Stuivenberg writes from the Netherlands that Sander Potjer was invited to speak at Joomla User Group Enschede about how to get started with Bootstrap and the latest features in Joomla 3.2 which was well received – see below for photos.

At Joomla Suffolk we covered two extensions which many of our members use but haven't explored fully – Admin Tools and Akeeba Backup. The meeting was well attended with lots of new faces, and revived enthusiasm for the 2014 programme. Slides are available on Slideshare.
