Community Openings - Joomla! 4 Edition

JCM-openroles3

Psst!  Have you heard? Joomla! 4 is coming. Yeah, I know that you’ve heard that before, but it’s TRUE!  Earlier this month Joomla 4 Beta 7 was released and you know what that means?! It means that a Joomla 4 Release Candidate is dropping soon, and where there’s a release candidate, a new Joomla release is soon to follow. To get over the finish line, we need a hand, make that several hands to get things done. There’s a saying, something about many hands, making light work, or something like that. We could use MANY hands to write, test, bugfix, market, document, translate and more.

In this special edition of Community Openings we are highlighting opportunities for anyone, even YOU to be a part of this new major release of Joomla. If you have an hour or many hours, are a writer, coder, marketer, and something in-between, here’s your chance to be one-of-the-many hands to help this next release happen.

Hey There Creatives!

Yes, you, the artistic-minded individuals who create engaging campaigns, write riveting copy, create captivating images, the marketers, designers, and copywriters in and around our community. Our Marketing Team needs you to assist with marketing efforts preparing to promote Joomla. Please contact the Marketing and Communications Department and let them know how you can help.

In Your Own Language

Joomla is for everyone!  It is translated into over 88 languages. Yup, I said 88! Here’s where you come in, we need help to get the translations done.

Our multilingual software needs multilingual marketing messages. Lend your linguistic skills to the Marketing Team to help craft effective and engaging marketing messages that share all of the wonderful software features Joomla has to offer, like it “speaks” your language. Give a shout out to the Joomla 4 Marketing team and let them know you are raising your hand.

It doesn’t stop there. We need Joomla documentation in many languages from beginners to advanced to help our worldwide Joomla community find the help they need. The Documentation Team has been putting together Joomla 4 tutorials but help is needed to create and edit them in many languages. Get started here on participating in Joomla Documentation Translations, contribute to the Joomla Documentation here, or help write new Joomla 4 tutorials here

But wait, there’s more! Joomla is a multilingual system with many language packs and for Joomla 4, we need help from native speakers across the globe to complete the Language Translations. To help you will need a Crowdin Account (we can help you get set up if you don’t have one). Get started translating in your language on Joomla’s Crowdin here.

Better to it Break Now Than Later

Nothing is worse than getting something new only to have it break right away. Joomla 4 has been in Beta since May 2020. Since then, with COVID lockdowns around the world, many volunteers have spent time on their weekends testing pull requests and patches for Joomla, as well as coding and fixing other issues.

The Saturday event has been called Bugs & Fun@Home (BF@H) and started as an expansion of the Pizza, Bugs & Fun event held globally over the past few years with Joomla User Groups participating around the world. BF@H has been a great place to find out how to not only fix bugs in Joomla, but to also get access to people across many Joomla teams to discuss and learn about other parts of the project.

Over the coming weeks, Bugs & Fun@Home will be running information and onboarding sessions at 0600UTC Saturdays (and other times by request) to get new volunteers interested in learning how to start testing bugs. You don’t have to be a coder or developer to test and again, we will walk you through getting started. So if you’re interested, visit the Bugs & Fun@Home page or contact the This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to find out more.

The Bottom Line

NOW is your opportunity to be a part of the next major release of Joomla by giving an hour or more of your time and talent. Talent that is not limited to that of a coder or developer.

Can we count on you to raise your hand?

For assistance with getting connected with the right opportunity or if you have general questions about volunteering, reach out to This email address is being protected from spambots.
