Community Openings April 2021

JCM-openroles3 Join our team

In America, April is National Volunteer Month where we recognize and celebrate those who give of their time and talent to help others. As a volunteer-driven organization Joomla! would not exist without them/us/we, the volunteers that work hard to manage, build, create, enhance, document, translate, market, and so on.

Each month we highlight opportunities for you, this time as you read the featured opportunities or browse through the Help Wanted page, think about a colleague, friend, relative, or student that may have an hour or more to volunteer their time and talent to a worthy organization. Then I want you to invite them to volunteer for the Joomla project

That’s right, I am not asking you to volunteer (unless you want to), I am asking you to think about people you know who may be interested in translating, documenting, testing, marketing, and more. An hour, a day, a week, or for a single event, we’d love to have them.

Alternatively, you can introduce them to the Volunteer Engagement Team (VET) and after getting to know them a bit, the VET can help match them to the right opportunity.

To get you thinking, here are this month’s Featured Opportunities to volunteer with the Joomla project.

Translate into Your Language

The Translation Team is looking for volunteers to translate the Joomla CMS, the official websites, documentation, and marketing materials into many different languages. https://volunteers.joomla.org/teams/joomla-translation-program-team

The Privacy Compliance Team is looking for a Team Lead. Help the Marketing Team Spread the Word About Joomla

The Marketing Team is looking for talented copywriters to help with developing marketing and communication materials for the upcoming release of Joomla 4.

The Joomla 4 Marketing Team’s brief is to come up with materials that engage new Joomla users to consider using Joomla 4, as well as encourage experienced Joomla users to upgrade to Joomla 4 when it’s released.

If you’re a copywriter with the talent to help sell Joomla as a leading content management system to the world, we need your skills. Joomla needs copywriters who are ideally familiar with Joomla, and also familiar with Joomla’s target market so that their copy is relevant and modern and understand how people will react to their writing.

If you’re not a copywriter, but reading this makes you think your skill set might also be useful to the Joomla 4 Marketing Team, find out more about the opportunities available here: https://volunteers.joomla.org/teams/joomla-4-marketing-team#roles

Accessibility Document Writer

In addition to helping to help test Joomla’s accessibility, we could use a hand with writing tutorials for quick and easy checks, semi-automated testing, manual testing, assistive technology testing, use case testing, and usability testing. These tutorials will help volunteers, developers, contributors, and others become more aware of accessibility.

Accessibility Tester

Joomla is about community and we want Joomla 4 to be accessible to everyone. To reach that goal,  the Joomla Accessibility Team is looking for individuals who have an understanding of accessibility and WCAG 2.1 guidelines to take 2-3 hours a week to test Joomla.

As you can see there are varied opportunities available for contributing to the Joomla project. It is now your turn to invite a colleague, friend, relative, or student to volunteer for the Joomla project.

If you have any questions or would like help getting connected, contact the Volunteer Engagement Team (VET), we’re here to help.
