What’s New in the Joomla! Community Magazine?

The Joomla Community Magazine will be four years old in a few months. Since the beginning, this unique and popular communication channel, where the community is the primary contributor, has grown and matured. It’s an on-going process, and today we’d like to mention a few recent changes, and thank some of the people who are making it possible.

You may have noticed a little row of flags at the top of some articles in the past couple of months. By clicking on a flag, you will be taken directly to the translation of that article in the language represented by the flag. This is a plugin that David Hurley wrote for the magazine, and overnight it brought a whole new level of multi-lingualism to our pages. We are also fortunate to have a number of faithful translators standing by to translate articles into Dutch, French, Spanish, Polish, etc. We can always use more hands on deck, so if you’re interested in participating to help translate an article into your language, This email address is being protected from spambots. And multi-lingual news doesn’t end there. You may have noticed the new International Stories menu in the right column of the home page. This is the work of Sandra and Mat Thevenet, who are helping to give some prominence to our International Stories. Under their leadership, the French team is growing, in an effort that was started by Eric Lamy to organize a group of dedicated French contributors. They are producing a good bunch of articles every month, and qui sait… maybe one of these days we’ll see a fully French version of the magazine! An important dimension to the magazine is the comments, which allows for readers to go beyond the article to make remarks or ask questions, and for authors to interact directly with them. A recent upgrade to CComments, by Daniel Dimitrov, not only cleaned up an unpleasant spam situation, it now gives more timely control of comments to our authors. Plus it looks good! So let’s keep the conversation going!

So many of the technical changes implemented on the website see the light of day thanks to Olaf Offick of the Community Leadership Team (CLT), who is always responsive to our requests with patience, good humor, and awesome tech skills!

Thanks to these and all the other people who help us roll out an issue every month – it is a group effort of impressive proportions.
