A Simplified Approach

A Simplified Approach

Remember Mambo? How about the “rhuk-milkyway” template? Take one fair-sized site which to the public eye looked manageable, but beyond held a behemoth of an intranet with hundreds of registered users and six versions of templates pointing to odd morphed versions, each spaghetti-ing between versions, transparent gifs, shaded borders of images, css files and hard-coded JavaScript routines of slideshows... you name it, it was there. It was no small job to make any change at all, let alone move this whole thing to Joomla 3.

Bug Squash and Doctor Joomla in Nice

Bug Squash and Doctor Joomla in Nice

Just a weekend at the French Riviera, not for the sun and beach but for the 9th Joomla Day France on the 9th and 10th of May. This was going to be my first Joomla Day in a language I do not understand. Despite that I was scheduled to give a presentation, run the Bug Squash session and play Doctor Joomla.

Category Item Count: A Possible New Feature?

Category Item Count: A Possible New Feature?

How does a new feature end up in Joomla? This is a story about how a new feature is developed and how it might get into a next version of Joomla. From conception, to development, to community feedback & help, to testing, and (hopefully) to adding it to the core code. The story you are about to hear is true; only the names have not been changed to credit the people who helped me out.

Deadbeat Clients Got You Down? Get Paid on Time

Deadbeat Clients Got You Down? Get Paid on Time

There is an estimated 53 million people who work from home in the US. Most of them are billing clients and living their lives. I like you have been one of those people for the past 10 years. In a perfect world, we would send off an invoice, receive prompt payment, and then all get on with our lives. It would be a wonderful life. Unfortunately, this isn't the reality for many SME's.

Last Chance to Upgrade from Joomla 2.5

Last Chance to Upgrade from Joomla 2.5

This is an important notice on the safety and updating our Joomla 2.5 sites. This text is dedicated to Manuel Rubio, a big enthusiast and contributor to Joomla, who died last May 15. I will always be grateful for the long conversations with him that gave me a broad view of what it means to work for the community, and that was reflected in my support, commitment and work towards the Mexico City JUG community. Rest in peace.
