The brief was to design and build a new online news portal for the offline publication, FTSE Global Markets, with complete SEO best practice, site monetisation and user database leveraging preferences, interest areas and email alerts. Their target audience is Institutional Investors.

What was the biggest challenge you faced?

No really big challenges, but syndicating the site content into the newsletter template while allowing the administrators to select required content from the website proved lengthy and involved.

How did you solve it?

We built a component that allowed the administrator to select content from K2 and assign that content to specific parts of the email template. The component then outputted multiple RSS feeds that are picked up by MailChimp and implemented into the template, styled to match the website.

Final Thoughts:

The site has just been live for a very short while, but we have achieved Google News inclusion in record time. We now have 39,000 pages indexed within Google, and are delivering contextual banner advertising throughout the website and email newsletters. The entire subscriber database is now clean, online, ABC verified and actively updated on a regular basis.

We are also in the process of building a QR code generator in the CMS to link the offline editorials with the enhanced online content.
