More Bang for Your JCM!

The Joomla Community Magazine exists for the community, and by the community. It’s not called the “Joomla Magazine” for a reason. The JCM was created primarily as a platform for community members to share their stories, tips and knowledge about Joomla. As long as a steady flow of articles comes from the community, the magazine will continue to exist. This has been the case for nearly five years, but lately, submissions have been down. It’s time for the community to rally around the magazine!

Interview: Alex de Borba

On January 6th, I saw an interesting post on the Joomla Facebook group from Alex de Borba that began, "Let's start something different, shall we?". Alex was offering his help for anyone who had a question about Joomla. I read through the comments and was extremely impressed with his courteous, helpful and well-written replies. I asked him to get in touch with me if he would be interested in writing for the JCM. He did. Here is the interview I had with Alex, a bit long, but very informative. I look forward to his future articles.

Focusing on Joomla!

This issue is a big one! We have lots of articles and, very happily, lots of photos. The one thing we always do each month is try to find a relevant image to go with articles that were submitted without one... not so easy when you are searching for something interesting to go with an article full of code.
The upcoming Joomla World Conference is just around the corner! I recently sat down with Jon Neubauer, one of the JWC organizers, to learn more about the JWC and everything that is planned. Read through and take advantage of the JCM discount code!

Putting the U in Community!

I recently had the pleasure of attending the Community Leadership Summit, lead by Jono Bacon and held in Portland, Oregon on July 18-20. I was joined by Sander Potjer (Joomla Community Leadership Team) and David Hurley (Joomla Production Leadership Team and Joomla's Community Manager). This was my first conference that was not a Joomla event, and it was also my first "unconference".

Why do YOU support Joomla!?

During the recent Joomla Leadership Summit held on May 27-29, the leadership team was asked to come up with three reasons for "Why am I supporting Joomla, that much?"

You've Got a Friend...

Amidst the tranquil backdrop of JoomlaDay Netherlands, the Joomla "Doktors" donned their white jackets and sat down to help folks with what was ailing them, be it code, a question or a quick session on fixing a problem with a site. At one point, we had ten people around the table, of which eight were women.

The X Factor and Women in Tech

Last December I wrote about the "X Factor and Women in Joomla". This time, I am extending it to women in tech. On March 23, I attended the LibrePlanet 2013: Commit Change conference that was held at Harvard University. A two-day conference, I was only able to attend the first day, and I was on a mission to follow up with Marina Zhurakhinskaya from GNOME's Outreach Program for Women.

It all started on a hot, summer day in August, an innocent lunch, a good idea, and off we went, diving headfirst into planning the first ever JoomlaDay Boston! You may see this as a bit of shameless plugging, and you are right, please join us! But with it, I hope to pass along a few good tips on event organizing.

There Are No Limits...

As we begin the new year, here is something to think on... "If you always put limit[s] on everything you do, physical or anything else, it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there – you must go beyond them." ~Bruce Lee
