The J!OSCAR awards - recognizing excellence in the Joomla! community

The Joomla! project has won numerous awards such as Best Linux/Open Source Project, Best CMS and more recently being inducted into the CMS Hall of Fame. In contrast, the people who build, develop for, implement and write about Joomla lack an awards ceremony to recognize their contributions and efforts. To fill this gap, the Joomla! Open Source Creative and Artistic Recognition awards were created in 2010 at the J! and Beyond conference in Wiesbaden, Germany. The singular power of the J!OSCARs lies in the fact that it is a peer-based initiative: anyone in the community can submit a site, project/extension or person for an award.

J!OSCAR Awards

The following awards will be given in 2011:

  • Web Sites powered by Joomla!: (i) Community, (ii) Non-Profit Organisation/ Governmental, (iii) Corporate and (iv) Blog.
  • Extensions for Joomla!: (i) Component, (ii) Module or Plugin, (iii) Administrator only extension and (iv) Template Framework.
  • Joomla! People: (i) Forum junkie, (ii) Code junkie, (iii) Blog junkie and (iv) Social Media junkie.

From the list of submissions an international jury will create a short list of nominees. Conference attendees will be able to vote from the short list to decide the winners.

On behalf of the entire organizing committee for J! and Beyond, we invite you to submit nominations for the 2011 J!OSCARs.

Nominations close on 15 April and the short list will be announced on 22 April.

J! and Beyond 2011

For anyone interested in attending J! and Beyond 2011, I encourage you to check out all the details on the official web site. J! and Beyond is the only global Joomla-specific conference and attracts developers, implementors and bloggers from around the world.

Like the J!OSCARs, all of the presentations are submitted and selected by the conference attendees and this peer-based approach sets J! and Beyond apart from other Joomla events.

J! and Beyond 2010 was an unequivocal success and this year will be bigger and better. The conference will be held 6 May through 8 May at the Rolduc Conference Centre in Kerkrade, Netherlands.

We hope to see you there!
