JoomlaDay ES 2023 recap

Four years have passed since our last encounter at JoomlaDay Madrid 2019. The enthusiasm for reuniting with old friends, meeting new people, and exchanging the latest insights into Joomla and web development was tangible. This is how this JoomlaDay ES 2023 went.

Location

This year's event took place at the Madrid International Lab, a beautiful 19th-century edifice recovered to serve as a co-working space for startups and a hub for hosting events within the city's innovation ecosystem under the auspices of the Madrid City Council.

First Day: Volunteer Day

The inaugural day was divided into two distinct segments. First, we had an informative workshop led by Marcos Salvatierra, who shared valuable insights on using Joomla within educational environments. Following this, Carlos Cámara directed a "Pizza, Bugs, and Fun" session,  demonstrating how to actively contribute to Joomla by testing the improvements and fixes introduced in Joomla 5 and engaging in documentation writing and translation.

Of course, the day ended with pizza.

Second Day: Joomla Day

The second day commenced with an engaging keynote address by Crystal Dionysopoulos, the current President of Open Source Matters. Her presentation offered a glimpse into the future of Joomla and underscored how we can play a pivotal role in the ongoing development of this project.

Subsequently, a series of presentations started, which covered a wide range of topics:

All these presentations are available on the event website, jday.joomlaes.org, and JoomlaEs, the reference point for the entire Spanish-speaking Joomla community. Although most presentations are in Spanish, you can add subtitles in your preferred language.

Of course, there was plenty of time for networking, sharing experiences, and discussing new projects, particularly my favorite part of these events.

Acknowledgments

First, thank you to everyone who made this event a reality, including sponsors, speakers, and attendees.

However, I want to reserve a special mention for the dedicated team that orchestrated this event: Josean Telleria, Sergio Iglesias, Paco Guio, Pilar Dávila, Quiviro Enquerre, Pablo Arias, Isidro Baquero, Edurne Rubio, Marcos Salvatierra, Carlos Cámara, José Antonio Luque, and Javier Olivares.

With JoomlaDay ES 2023 behind us, the natural question arises: will we enjoy a JoomlaDay ES 2024? Indeed, this JoomlaDay has just concluded, and we're already hard at work planning the next edition. The date and venue will be announced in due course, but the primary aim is to organize the next JoomlaDay ES in Asturias. Stay tuned for more updates!
